As recently as Video Forum (January 2008) we have been telling people that Premiere would not support Sony XDCam or XDCam-EX unless you had a Matrox Axio. Then all of a sudden along comes an update and adds it for free!
Premiere Pro 3.2 will automatically install itself on your machine if you have the Premiere automatic updates enabled. When you restart Premiere you will then see new presets for XDCam and XDCam-Ex.
The new Premiere support lets you import and edit XDCam footage, but will not let you record back to an XDCam card. It also does not support editing with Proxies. These are all things that are possible with a Matrox Axio, so there are still very good reasons to opt for an Axio-based system (of course the Axio also adds HD-SDI and component i/o, uncompressed HD capture and a lot of acceleration).
Do I let the update install if I have an RT.X2 or Axio?
We are now using the update on all our new systems and it is is not causing major problems.
