There are a couple of interesting new options for our DVC M571 laptop. The first is a 'Robson' chip. This is a new component that adds extra caching power to the computer and improves its performance. This new chip is only available for the M571 laptop at present, and only works under Windows Vista. It costs about £30 and we are testing it now.

We can also now offer our M571 laptop with a 'hybrid' hard drive. This is a drive that has extra flash memory built in, which is used whenever the laptop is put into sleep mode. The currently running programs are then cached onto the flash memory, and not the hard drive as usual. The upshot is that the laptop goes to sleep and recovers more quickly than it does with a normal drive. With a hybrid drive your laptop can recover from sleep mode in a few seconds and you can be ready to work faster. This feature also only works under Windows Vista.

Windows Vista is an operating system that has not been embraced by many of our customers, who have preferred to stick with Windows XP and asked the question "why bother with Vista?" Well, these are the first of many reasons why you should consider Vista for your next system!
