We have added a section to the website detailing the new features of Premeire Pro CS5, announced on the 12th April at the NAB show in Las Vegas.

64 Bit Premiere

CS5 is a large leap forward for Adobe Premiere - Premiere has now been re-born as a 64 bit application which means it will be able to
access as much RAM as you have in your system, so will be more stable and faster.  It will also be able to properly use multi-core processors such as the new i7 processors from Intel.

Mercury Playback Engine

Also added with CS5 is the "Mercury Playback Engine" - this gives you better performance with different types of video as well more realtime playback.  This really comes into its own when used with the right kind of graphic card, where you can get multiple layers of effects (2D, 3D, colour correction etc..) even with compressed HD footage.

Support for more formats

Adobe have also added supports for more types of video included digital SLR footage and RED Camera.  Premiere now supports more formats directly in the timeline than most programs and with the Mercury playback engine, can edit them very well!

Other additions

There are also a host of other additions to Premiere CS5 as well as updates to Encore and the Media Encoder.  These include:
  • Ultra keyer now included in Premiere so you can do decent realtime keying inside of Premiere Pro.
  • New additions to the Media Encoder to make choosing your output settings much easier.
  • Multi-layer pop-up menus inside Adobe Encore for Blu-ray disc.
  • Save a still button.
  • More options for Flash output with Adobe Encore.
  • Encoding inside Encore can be done with Adobe Media Encoder so you can use extra hardware (like a Matrox Compress HD) and also get the benefit of 64 bit processing.
    • Adobe have also updated all their other products including After Effects (which has also gone 64 bit), Soundbooth, Photoshop and Illustrator.
